A moderately trafficked loop trail that begins at the day-use area and loops through Split Rock campground before returning to the day-use area again. The trail features a variety of trees, birds, fungus, rock formations, and wildlife. This trail is best used during warmer weather. This hike is accessible to the whole family (including your dogs as long as they are on leash). Driving Directions to Donner Memorial State Park The park is 100 miles east of Sacramento via Interstate 80, and is within the town of Truckee, just west of downtown on the south side of the freeway. *When you enter the park ask for the day-use area parking for Split Rock. Get on I-80 W 3 min (0.7 mi) Follow I-80 W to Donner Pass Rd in Truckee. Take exit 184 from I-80 W 33 min (33.2 mi) Follow Donner Pass Rd to S Shore Dr 7 min (1.7 mi) California 96161 You will have to enter Donner Memorial state park

Parking Details

Parking: Fees are required to park in the parking lots year-round. You may pay for parking in the Donner Memorial Visitor Center (10am-5pm) or self-register your parking payment using envelopes at the entrance kiosk (summer) or the Automated Pay Machine (summer/winter - Cash/credit) outside the Visitors Center. Day Use hours are sunrise-sunset, seven days a week. Rates: May 1 - September 30: $10 per vehicle for the day. October 1 - April 30: $5 per vehicle. Annual passes are available to purchase in Visitor Center. Bus Fee: $100/day
