1. PLACES / TAYLOR CREEK RAINBOW TRAIL
This gem of a trail is located near Camp Richardson in South Lake Tahoe. It is about a half mile loop and is best known for it's views of the native Kokanee Salmon spawning. The trail is a mix of pavement and wooden boardwalk (without fencing in some areas, FYI) and takes you past a creek and through native marsh and forest. When the Stream Profile Chamber reopens (slated for Fall 2023), this is a can't-miss spot as you get to see the fish swimming in the stream from below water level!

Helpful Trail Information

Some spots on the trail might gather water if there has been rain recently, but otherwise it's a lovely and fairly easy walk. The visitor center is not open year-round, but you can access the trail all year.

What gear would you suggest a family bring along?

Carrier or stroller if desired, weather appropriate clothing, sunscreen

What baby or child hazards are there on this hike?

The new boardwalk is wonderful but does not have fencing so there is a risk of falling into the water. As with anywhere in Tahoe, bears might be around, so keep an eye out.
