About Out🌱Grown

Our Mission

OutGrown is bridging the Baby Nature Gap. Our work helps families with children from zero to five years old build relationships with nature to improve mental and physical health, prevent adverse childhood experiences, and encourage environmental awareness from birth.

Through community-led programs, we utilize an intergenerational approach starting at birth to ensure that families have the support they need to incorporate nature into their daily lives.

OutGrown is a national 501(c)3 nonprofit headquartered in Beaverton, OR.

Our Vision

We envision a future where families no longer require downstream interventions to address physical and mental health concerns from adverse childhood experiences, as they are supported from day one in fostering a strong connection to nature. Despite rising outdoor recreation rates, outings for families with young children have declined, and opportunities for getting children outside typically don’t start until kids are school-aged, creating what we call the Baby Nature Gap. OutGrown’s programs target the critical early years in a child’s development to help caregivers and their little ones connect with nature, each other, and their community from the start, promoting positive healthy behaviors and working to prevent adverse childhood experiences before they begin.

Our Programs Help Us Make Our Vision A Reality

Turn the Blues Green

Out Turn the Blues Green program focuses on caregiver well-being, especially maternal mental health. It supports new caregivers in experiencing the healing benefits of time spent in nature for themselves and their babies.

Bring it Outside

The Bring it Outside program offers simple, low-barrier, positive opportunities for families to engage in early childhood development in the outdoors and strengthen the connection between caregivers and their children ages 0-5

Hike it Baby

Our Flagship program encourages families to build local connections at our free nature outings or explore family-friendly outdoor locations via our Family Trail Guide. Local volunteers can complete our Outside Guide training to host outings near them.
