1. PLACES / SECOND BEACH TRAIL
This interesting trail starts at a porta potty (the only one in the area) and a well-worn kiosk. It leads through old-growth coastal forest that crosses a creek and can be boggy most of the year. It will lead you down a well-worn crib staircase that switchbacks down a steep hill. At the bottom of the staircase, the trail opens up to a scattering of massive, criss-crossing beach logs that you must clamber over to get to the beach. While kids (and adults) love climbing over these well-worn logs, some logs are unstable, so caution is advised! Along the beach you will see sea stacks rising from the water along with a natural arch to the north. At low tide, you can see an array of sea creatures in the tidepools including crabs ad sea stars, and the sunset is breathtaking from this beach (just be sure to bring flashlights or headlamps for the hike back).
