We are celebrating the finish of the September HiB30 Challenge by thanking our Hike it Baby Title Partners at Oakiwear for the prize of a Trail Suit of choice! Barbara Halevi won just by registering her family to get outside in September for 30 minutes 3 times per week OR to achieve 30 miles in 30 days.
Four times per year, HiB families around the world join in the fun of challenging themselves to get outdoors and to help motivate and inspire other families to do the same. The community created is enthusiastic and shares the highs and lows that affect how we spend our time outdoors. 1,629 Challengers from around the world got outside in every kind of weather for a collective total of 38,641 miles and a total of 1,854,281 collective minutes. That's amazing!
Here is some insight into how Barbara's family experienced this Challenge month:
We love puddle stomping! We will definitely use our new Oakiwear Trail Suit for some rainy day adventures. Can't wait to try it out! (Maybe now I'll need to upgrade my own rain gear so I don't get soaked....)
Our goal for the challenge was to get outdoors for at least 30 minutes every day. We got close - only missed two days. HiB30 is always great motivation to get out the door, even on days when staying inside would be so much easier. A lot of times our minutes were just playing in our own backyard. The kids don't mind, though! There's lots to see close to home - we watched birds, chipmunks, squirrels, and bugs, worked in our garden, mowed the lawn (that's the two-year-old's favorite activity), and of course, did lots of playing!
We have several great trails in our area that are perfect for two and four-year-old legs (not too difficult, a few bridges to cross or other things to keep the little ones motivated to keep going!). We didn't try too many new places this month - maybe next time!
We started off on September 1st with an almost two mile hike, which my four-year-old and two-year-old each walked on their own feet. So proud! Of course, we only ended up with 11.75 miles for the whole month...but at least we got off to a good start! :) My two-year-old and I had two really great solo hikes this month, where he walked the first part and then was carried in the Onya on my back for the rest. Walking along, just the two of us, and having conversations with him about everything he sees is such a fun way to experience nature from a child's eyes! One of our hikes this month was a classic meltdown; both kids were so whiny and grumpy the whole time! I felt bad for the other families hiking with us (and anyone who passed us on the trail...we weren't exactly creating a quiet, calm atmosphere). But, then I realized that everyone else has those days too, and in the end both kids sat on a log and enjoyed their trail snacks, so it wasn't a total loss! Thanks again to everyone who participated in this September's HiB30 Challenge! Want to join in the fun and be entered to win awesome prizes, like those given from our friends at Oakiwear? Stay tuned to join in the next HiB30 Challenge in November!!
